USE OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS
The University of South Carolina is licensed to use radioactive
materials under a Broad License with the SC Department of Health
and Environmental Control.
AUTHORIZATION
Researchers wishing to use radioactive materials must complete
the Application for Authorization.The
application will be reviewed by staff members and by members of
the Radiation Safety Committee.
TRAINING
All users of radioactive material must have adequate training
in radiation safety. These courses are generally provided once
a semester. See the next scheduled
training session.
RADIATION MONITORING
The University monitors persons working with radioactive materials
and x-ray producing equipment.Complete a Badge
Request Form to apply for a badge. A Declaration
of Pregnancy Badge Request Form must be completed and submitted
to declare a pregnancy for additional monitoring. For questions
related to exposure monitoring, please contact Alison

RADIOACTIVE WASTE COLLECTION
All forms of radioactive waste are picked up by our office. A
request for a pickup is made through the email address:radsafety@gwm.sc.edu.
