Class III, IIIB, and IV Lasers can pose a risk to operators if not used properly. In order to ensure the safe use of these devices, the Laser Safety Program was established. The University uses the ANSI Standard, Z136, as guidance for the safe use of lasers.

LASER REGISTRATION:
Contact Blanche Holliday at 777-5269 prior to ordering a new laser system.
An inspection will be scheduled upon installation of the system.

LASER SAFETY OFFICER:
Every lab utilizing lasers must have an individual designated as the "Laser Safety Officer" who will ensure the laser is operated according to the ANSI Standards and will act as our main contact.

LASER TRAINING:
Laser training is required for users of Class III and IV laser devices and is conducted through a computer based training program. To schedule a training session, please contact
Blanche Holliday to set an appointment. A test is given at the end of the course.
